PRESENTATION- The Power of Student Created Video.

The Importance of Media in Education

  • Increase retention
  • Encourage Creativity
  • Assessment - Students Share What They Know
  • Sharing - Students get to be teachers by sharing videos inside & outside the classroom.

HANDS-ON ACTIVITY - Choose one (or more) of the following...and YES! You can work with a partner.

1) Paper Slide Videos - Help students learn by making them the teacher.

2) iMovie Trailers - Imagine using this for a book report?

3) ScreenCast Lesson - Ready to ԀI˥Ⅎ your classroom? Record your screen as you teach something.

  • Free Tools:

  • For a Few Dollars More...
  • Clarify-It ($40) Jon Orr from Faith Lutheran, Las Vegas shared this. I haven't tried it yet, but it's worth a look.
  • Snag-It ($30 Education Pricing)
  • Camtasia Studio ($179 Education Pricing) This is the "top-shelf" solution. Screen recording plus full editing and effects.

4) Music Based Teaching - (For you extroverts) Think that nobody writes good songs about Graphing Exponential Functions anymore? Think again.
  • Standards-Based Songs
  • EXAMPLE My group made this at the Discovery Pre-Conference event in Denver this summer. Click on the “Morning White” group. (We won with 75% of the vote!)

Lunch Hour at 11:30 am / Back to Work at 12:30 pm

Publishing - Posting videos online for students to use for study or review. What good is a video if nobody can see it?
  • When a student's work is something that is shared with the world (or even just their school or classmates) they want it to be GOOD. When students work is only shared with the teacher they want it to be GOOD ENOUGH. - Rushton Hurley
  • Options

Sharing - Promote your original student creations. Maybe even win something cool. More importantly, get your videos out there for others to see.
